Sentient Computing is heading to Perth this October to exhibit at the AusIMM International Mine Health & Safety Conference 2026 (5–7 October, Pan Pacific Perth) and we’re bringing Fire Extinguisher VR, our newest immersive training module, to Stand 08.
IMHS brings together mine health and safety leaders from across the resources sector to focus on one theme: keeping people safe at work. It’s exactly the room our fire response training belongs in.
What we’re showcasing
At Stand 08, we’re demonstrating our latest workplace fire response module – immersive VR paired with a Bluetooth-enabled real fire extinguisher.
Rather than a game controller or a button press, learners hold and squeeze an actual de-gassed extinguisher. The muscle memory they build in VR is the same physical motion they’d use in a real emergency.
Across the module, learners:
- Raise the alarm and assess the situation
- Choose the right equipment for the emergency in front of them
- Respond to eight realistic scenarios spanning office, workshop, underground, plant and kitchen settings
It’s practice a site can run as many times as it takes, safely and without shutting down operations for a live-fire exercise.

Why we built it this way
Fire response and safety training has always faced the same trade-off: live-fire drills are realistic but expensive, disruptive and hard to repeat often; classroom or video training is easy to scale but doesn’t build real physical technique. Fire Extinguisher VR is built to close that gap, it is realistic enough to build genuine muscle memory, repeatable enough to fit into a normal shift.
