On March 16th, 2023, our team was invited to attend the Rio Tinto Supplier Recognition Gala at Crown Towers. We were thrilled to be announced as the winner for the Innovation Award which recognises the use of an innovative solution to overcome a challenge or obstacle which has been beneficial to Rio Tinto’s WA operations.
There were 160 local suppliers nominated, across six categories with four finalists chosen for each category.
The Sentient team was nominated and recognised for our work with the Gudai-Darri Operational Readiness Team and the Site Capability and Development Team to build and construct numerous Virtual Reality Training Modules during the design and construction phase of the Gudai-Darri Mine.
The project was our biggest training project to date and saw Sentient grow from 25 to 40 people in a short period, bringing on a number of new, WA-based game developers, designers and learning consultants to help design and deliver the engaging and immersive training experiences.
The immersive VR training packages and accompanying computer-based training modules covered a wide range of areas, from High-Voltage Switching, to Fatigue and Sleep Awareness to the futuristic Gudai-Darri Laboratory. They allowed Rio Tinto to train staff remotely, from over a thousand kilometres away before the mine had even been built.
We’ve worked with Rio Tinto in WA and globally for many years across various technologies and departments, and we look forward to continuing to try out the latest and greatest technologies in new ways.
We are so proud of the work our team has done to earn this recognition and thank Rio Tinto for a fantastic project and opportunity.
