Development of a new MacroView Alarm App
Our customer was using a pager system from the 1980’s to send out Alarms to operators in the field. It was identified that this technology needed to be updated before the pager system broke down and turned to dust. This customer uses MacroView as a Control system and required the operators, who were sometimes far away from the Control Room, to be aware of any critical Alarms. An Android app was developed to send notifications from the MacroView server to users’ mobile devices, notifying users of all new high priority Alarms and allowing them to check associated data.
CHALLENGE:
One of our customers who have been using our MacroView product as a Control System for many years had historically employed a1980’s pager system to send Alarms to operators in the field. This commercial chemical supplier needed to update the technology before the pager system broke down and turned to dust. In particular the customer required the operators, who were sometimes far away from the Control Room, to be aware of any critical Alarms that might be occurring to be able to react if required.
SOLUTION:
An android mobile phone application was developed to send notifications from the server to the user’s mobile phone over a wi-fi connection and notify users of all new high priority Alarms. The app also provides users with access to view any tag data that they might want to check.
OUTCOME:
Operators are now able to monitor Alarms when they are away from the Control Room without having to rely on the pager system. They can also check on any data related to the Alarm and gauge whether they must respond immediately or whether something can wait. The app is available for a range of commercially available and cost effective android devices
